Another field trip is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, this one to Wells Grey Park and the beautiful Helmcken Falls. The extended winter plus cool and wet May and June helped to keep the water volumes up but without a huge amount of melting. So the Falls were particularly dramatic when Celia Visscher took this photo in June. The recent very warm weather will have melted more of the remaining high snow, and the Falls should still be thunderous.
Here are the field trip details from Larry Citra:
“Field trip to Wells Grey Park/Helmcken Falls:
We decided on Saturday, July 19th for this outing. We will be leaving Derek’s place no later than 8:00 am. I thought Derek’s Place would be a safe place to leave a vehicle if you were going to car pool it with someone.
We will regroup again at Jim’s Shell station, which is just to the left after you turn off Hwy 5 on to Clearwater Valley Road. Derek tells me there is a roundabout there now. If you don’t want to drive up to Derek’s you need to be passing the intersection of Eagleridge Rd. and Hwy 24 at about 8:15 am. At the speed limit it would take about 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive from Eagleridge Rd. to Clearwater.
Please try and be prompt (or even earlier than that!) It always takes longer than you think to get organized.
If you wanted to email me (montanalake16@hotmail.com) to let me know you’re coming that would be a plus. And don’t forget lunch and snacks, raingear (you never know) and the essential BUG SPRAY!!! A camera would be handy also.
This should be fun! Hope to see you there. “
